Hello everyone: What an honor to share a bit of myself with you. Photography is a relatively new pursuit of mine and I feel lucky to be inspired every day by your gorgeous photos on IPA. I was raised in upstate New York in the Catskill Mountains where I left my childhood heart and then, further north near Buffalo. I had a tough beginning, losing my father to cancer when I was 13. I threw myself into academics and the theatre. To this day, I take delight in learning anything and everything…. Read More

I am an amateur photographer who enjoys photography in my free time. I’ve been deeply curious about photography since childhood, when I first witnessed a Polaroid producing a picture. Although I’ve been an infrequent photographer since high school, I have always been intrigued by the fact that one can record something that he/she sees (with a camera). Although I missed out on photography classes in school (as the course filled up so quickly), and I lacked the basic understanding of such things as the exposure triangle, I never lost interest or gave… Read More

Name: Eddie Ku From: Taiwan Age:43 Gear: Canon 6D I’m a self-educated photographer, based in Taipei. Before my photographic career I was a professional snooker coach, been playing snooker for 28 years. I bought my Canon 6D in May 2014, using it for Snooker tournaments.  But I found something of real interest to me, which is the human expression, that means everything in a photograph.  So I try to find out the natural part of every human being and by a chance, as a result now I’m a fashion photographer.

I moved from Canada to Mexico to live permanently in 1993, but didn’t discover photography until late 2011. A little odd since Mexico is a fantastically photogenic country with a long and significant history of remarkable photographers. Basically, owing to my being a life long motorcyclist, I began taking pictures of the places I would ride to so I could share them with friends and family. I work as an English language narrator for corporate/industrial/educational videos and documentaries and often do the translation, too. In between jobs, I teach English as a… Read More

Capturing and working with females in portrait and glamour photography is not new for me but having recently posted my first blog, took me into another realm of life away from my day to day work as an executive in a legal firm.  This has truly inspired and given me a new meaning to my being.  As a person I am passionate for sophisticated instrumentation and fine engineering and this has really fueled my passion for photography.  Enjoying female portrait photography as an amateur, makes me really appreciate elegant work without any… Read More

My name is Walter Schernstein. I am a photographer and I live in Germany, in the Ruhr area. I photograph as a photo-journalist and working on freely chosen projects. One of my projects is photography at dusk. The moment between the day and the night, the time of transition. The special lighting so creates new. Photography is a “door opener”, it allows me to explore my environment, through photography I learn. I learn people and know things that I otherwise would not have met. My free photographic work I exhibit in museums… Read More

Bio I love reading about people who were given cameras as children and ‘WHOOSH” that was it! The photography whoosh visited me much later in life. Coming from working class South Wales, I spent most of my childhood bunking off school, making rope swings and generally creating havoc for my grandmother. Nobody really had a camera. If there is one thing that I can pinpoint as a catalyst for creativity in my mad childhood and adolescence, it is a memory of a person seeing in a different way. In the town in… Read More

Bio I’ve had two passions in life.  Bikes and photography.  I got involved with motorcycles at an early age because they were cheaper than cars.  I got involved with photography working on the High School newspaper and Year Book.  After High School I joined the US Army and spent the next 20 years riding motorcycles and taking pictures all over the world. My only formal training in Photography was a correspondence course thru New York Institute of Photography.  Back then all military bases had a Photo Craft Shop.  Many had very well… Read More

Bio I came to the realization, upon leaving New York City, that life was happening too fast to be captured in words. As I was leaving, and going in the direction of Europe, I desperately needed to freeze-frame the world I was leaving, and the one ahead of me. I borrowed a camera and my upstairs neighbor, photographer and painter, Fred Bell, gave me a crash course in photography. It was a totally emotional decision. My actual field was music, the piano. I studied piano, loved to teach, and was working for… Read More

Using manual focus lenses on the Leica T – by Jonathan Slack

Introduction       For several years I’ve been trying out legacy lenses on a variety of cameras. It’s great to be able to reinstate some of the lovely older lenses. I also have an unhealthy collection of M lenses, and although they mostly get used on my M cameras, it’s good to use them on other cameras as well. I’ve tried using M lenses on the Sony A7 (quite good) A7r (not so good) Fuji X-T1, Olympus E-M1 and various other cameras. Some cameras produce colour casts with wider angle… Read More
